My Fathers Watch

My father owns a watch that belonged to his own father. Every time I looked at his wrist it was there. It was a big, shiny watch sparkling with the sunlight, gold and silver with a completely metallic chain. It was a gift my grandfather gave him for his 30th birthday; apparently my grandfather got it for himself as a birthday present. I remember asking for the time and my father was always happy and proud to answer my question all the time. I only met my grandfather when I was really young and I don’t remember much, but the watch brings back all the memories I have. If my father didn’t have the watch on his wrist it was in his nightstand ready to tell the time at any moment. I remember that for many years it ran out of battery, I don’t know why but its batteries didn’t get replaced for a long time. Maybe it was difficult to find them, or maybe my father was just lazy about it, but even if the battery ran out it was there on his wrist. It reminded my father of his father, and my father to me. He couldn’t get on with his day without it. To me the watch was a symbol of family and love; its incredible how an item can remind you of so many memories and good times. How just a simple watch can have so much meaning to many people, every part of if it working perfectly in harmony with each other not only to tell you the time that has passed by but to remind you of it and how it passes by. With every tick of the watch a second passes by and there is now way you can get it back. The watch storing all of those seconds, adding them together and turning them into beautiful memories than will never be forgotten is something truly magical.  But then again for many it could be only a pretty old and normal watch, but not for me, for me it is very special. I think it represents all the time that has passed, a kind of history of my family, all the good and bad things that have happed through out the years. I really hope that I can own it some day, and that my children feel the same way that I do about it. It really is a family treasure.
