More than a necklace
My father wears a silver necklace on his neck every day since February 19th, 2016. The necklace hangs high, but it does not choke him. Just like a marriage should be. The necklace is rarely separated from his body. The accessory accompanies him to work, breakfast, lunch, dinner and special events. So, ¿why is this simple necklace so meaningful? I assume its his marriage, which represents the important bond between him and my mother who love each other unconditionally. The metal figure on his necklace is silver, one of the strongest and most precious elements on Earth, and in my personal point of view, this silver is my mother. She is my father´s most valuable element in his life. When the silver piece finds itself in the darkness, one simple ray of light can create a reflection and shine. The darkness in other words is the conflict surrounding a marriage, and the brightness is hope. In some cases, the darkness defeats the light, but in others the light remains for decades. In years, the silver piece creates a number 22. The two decades and 2 years represent more than a number. It represents uncountable moments that will remain in their head for a long long time. The birth of a good looking first born, his first steps and words, his first birthday, then the birth of the standard regular son, and his standard achievements. Going back to the shape, the 22 is not the typical number, in fact it is shown in Roman numbers. At the end, the shape seems like an anchor. This anchor holds my father down, in a way that he is always attached to us, his family. Nevertheless, the necklace moves freely on the same area. Imagine the world this accessory has seen, all the roads in this country, important people in our society, fantastic events, and many other things. There was a time where I wore the necklace around my neck, and I can say that one can differentiate the weight on it. That, is the responsibilities that come with this lifelong bond. The responsibility of maintaining a family through hours of work and uncountable obstacles along the journey. As a conclusion, for me, this necklace represents more than a piece of jewelry
