no good as shoes

obstacles embedded behind airports and ammo depots
you hear a firestorms break the mourning silence

bombs thrust detonation back into our lives
upset things around broke ruined and cut down
acceleration and noise and things unrecognizable
ungraciously – behind the back of blinded eyes,

now distance ripped apart and freedom twisted.
landmines are no good as flip-flops
landmines are no good as shoes either

Author's Notes/Comments:

Afghanistan, Bosnia, Columbia, Thailand, Iraq, and Burma, and i am sure countless other locations show ample evidence of the kind of devastation anti-personnel landmines can inflict. Landmines are cheap to produce, easy to install, and are very effective weapons. However, months, years, and decades after a war is over mines continue to kill civilians worldwide. Do you have two strong legs?
Then march up to your elected representatives and demand an end to the APL'S. Some of the facts are startling: The biggest industry in Afghanistan is the manufacture of prosthetic legs -- partially because of landmines. And yet still to this day, more than 40 countries have not agreed to a total ban on the use and production of landmines. The United States is one of them.
It is time to make the world a better place to live, that is where I stand!!
