Devotion

She trusted you as a child
You asked her for her hand
You took her up a mountain
And promised her the land

She looked at you with honesty
She begged you not to rush or lie
You soothed her fears and loved her
So she didn't cry

She had a smile that was wide
And shone like the summer sun
She had no fears while you stood
By her side, why did you run?

The wind blew, the clouds grew gray
The wet mist took the view
She shivered in the cold and turned
But she couldn't see or find you

She wanted you, she trusted you
She knew you were right
But you were talking with friends
Standing just out of her sight

She loved being your girl
She looked forward to being your wife
But she was hurt and confused
By the way you kept secret that life

The dreams and love you shared
Was kept in shadows from friends away
And she felt as though what you had
Was hidden as out of shame

Tell her the distance can't matter
Because deeper still is your love
Assure her you'll remain faithful
To the words you that you gave
Don't take for granted the devotion
She shows you every day
