Be That Dad

Tugging on the strings of my heart,

Are two trophies and a report card,

Glowing like the skyline after dark,

Where every city light feels like a spark.

Nothing else compares to nights like these,

Windows down on that salt‑soft breeze;

Just a father and son with room to breathe,

Sharing soda, pizza, and simple peace.

I’m just trying to be the best dad I can,

The kind that helps you grow into a man;

The one who listens, steady and true,

When the weight of the world leans hard on you.

Be the voice that lifts you higher,

When your hope runs thin and low;

I want to be that father—

That’s why I bother, you should know.

I want to be that dad, I want to be that dad,

Oh, I got to be that dad, that dad,

I want to be that dad.

I’ll be front and center at your graduation,

Heart wide open in celebration;

Send one text and I’m there in seconds,

’Cause loving you is my greatest blessing.

Whether you’re lost in a crowded street,

Or walking a lonely road with tired feet,

Even when life feels incomplete,

Just know my home is your retreat.

I want to be that father figure,

The kind that makes you smile, makes you think;

The one who pulls you back together

When you’re standing right there on the brink.

Be the voice that lifts you higher,

When the world feels cold and slow;

I want to be that father—

That’s why I bother, you should know.

I want to be that dad, I want to be that dad,

Oh, I got to be that dad, that dad,

I want to be that dad.

When you’re looking back on how you grew,

I hope my love comes shining through;

Through every high and every low we had,

I just want to be that dad.
