The Mirror

I gaze at a face in the mirror, over the years she has changed
From a little girl I saw her grow, to this woman who is now in pain
She comes to this same mirror everyday, just to check for herself
Sometimes she doesn't recognize the person staring back
From broken hearts, to broken dreams, to overcoming fears
Everyday she expects to look and one day she is not there
See, I knew her when she was a teenager, suddenly starting to blossom
Cutting classes, wearing nice clothes, and boys looking at her
Then before you know she was a woman, then quickly became a mother
So now when she looks in the mirror she's looking for another
Noticing her son's smartness and her daughter's beauty
But only if she could find that strength that keeps her moving
Long days and nights are starting to show through her
She cries softly while cracking the biggest smile
Because the mirror doesn't know she is really checking for bruising
Domestic Violence has been her story for years with losers
Men have belittled her and taken away her happiness
Eyes used to light up like stars now all you see is sadness
That mirror reflected only what she allowed it to see
I am a survivor rang from my lips cause one day I finally seen me.

Mirror never

Mirror never speaks
but
Feelings and emotions
Do not have a chance to hide
