the light doesn't shine

like the sun

in my room

but every last one

of my flowers

were in bloom

i never got out the hose

to water my plants

but they grew tall

in rows

and rows

along my bedroom wall

i never used seeds or soil

or a hoe to pull up

the dirt that would harden

i used tape and pictures

cut out of magazines

in my paper garden



but soon they were worn down

and torn down

or fell off the wall

and they were no longer

very pretty to look at

no, not at all

and despite a lack

of everything normal

i did grow

while my paper garden

stayed the same

until it was time to let go

besides i had planted

a real garden

out in the yard

so i ripped down the pictures

and tossed them into my trash bin

in my paper graveyard
