My Last Rites

I stare into the distance
Feel it writhe into my mind
A moment in my weakness
When all the stars align
I think about forgiveness
And all my wretched lies
I beg at your insistence
That brings end to my life

Oh, Angel in the sky
Why do you torture my weak soul
Oh, Angel in the night
Why do you pull me to and fro
Oh, Angel in the darkness
Why am I standing in the cold
Oh, Angel in this instance
Why is my death your only tone

And as I walk through the valley in the shadow of death
I shall fear no delusion, cause I have no regrets
I lived the life I’ve been given, the hand I’ve been dealt
I took the clutter from the chaos, survived inside the mess
I will cross that fated river, with my hand upon my chest
I won’t take a glance behind me, to the life that I have left

Oh, Angel in the sky
Why do you bring about my ending
Oh, Angel in the night
Why is this death that you are sending
Oh, Angel in the darkness
Why take me from the living
Oh, Angel in this instance
Why is death just the beginning

To die, after such a short-lived glimpse of life
Is just one more adventure, after my last ride
With my final breath I said that I was grateful for my time
And in this final moment, I will chase into the light
And on my epitaph look kindly, at the words that are inscribed
For a man who gave his all, in the ground beneath you lies
