THE MANY WORD SHIPS COLERIDGE SAILED

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

like biscuits bobbing upon the bay
that ship of Coleridge sailed
through rhyme harbors and metered ways
much ink to the page he nailed
through lampooned angst and mariner's
myth
an albatross he murdered supposedly pale
such conflict,  joy and love he brought
to bare and tell
whether to where Kubla Khan
that primal pleasure dome shone
or to that of the fair, lovely Chrstabel and her
rarest mistletoe
he festooned for the reader such poetry as well
madrigal muse played he
with his varied word forms and postulated play
why some just a tad too creepily
yet a grammatical marvel as such still was the
pitting his masterful mind against the abyss of
imagery
prosperous poetic pioneer
rest your weary laurels in peace
flushed success from your fevered dream
paved successful stones for the path of your career
and that decade's long of opium's sweet release
accomplished provocative poeteer
carve from the clever some cavalier extreme
until upon a far superior ship
you were allowed to board and sail..............

Author's Notes/Comments:

Got to thinking about the lovely magical and sometimes strange flow of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poetry and the great enjoyment I got out of it when I was young and famished for adventure and adventurous poetry and this poem came to mind.
