Rogue Tear (story)

Even soul mates can keep secrets from each other. They both knew that. And they felt horrible for pretending to be happy when deep inside their souls were slowly crumbling from the weight of a secret love.

Best friends since the age of three, joined at the hip since age ten; they even went on dates together, attempting to find a love they knew already existed but refused to acknowledge.

Maybe it was their differences that kept them so close and yet so separate. The fact that others couldn't, no wouldn't, approve hurt the couple deeply.

The couple...oh, how they longed to be a Couple, to be known as a "they" instead of a "he and she." How she longed for him, her own Romeo, and he longed for her, a private Juliet. But surnames apart, these two were meant to be just friends.

Or were they?

One day they ran through the town, hand in hand like children, through the town, the fields, the desert and forest, they ran until their hearts melted and the ecstasy of pain and love and joy wore off, and finally the prejudice from home was gone.

And for the first time the guilt of lust and passion and long sought-after romance took hold, and as her eyes welled up his tears spilled out, and he held her close as he cried the girl to sleep.

In a quiet dreamland where their love cried out with glee, our Romeo and Juliet danced in a sunny rain. And back at home where they slept, far away from hatefilled eyes, her arm opened, and the blood spilled out of her veins.

His tears mixed with her blood and slowly his own thoughts caused a cascading waterfall of crimson rain to spew forth from his arm.

In their peaceful heaven the Couple danced through town and the fields, deserts, and forests, but back on their Earth they melted into each other, and as two comets in the sky became one falling star, Romeo and his Juliet were finally a "they" for Eternity.
