They say that there's a place of rest
Somewhere awaiting me.
Yet in the midst of all this strife
I but through faith can see.
When Jesus came himself to live
Upon this mad-paced Earth,
He too was harried, rushed and torn,
But He gave to men NEW birth.
If I could change the way men live,
Could I but leave behind,
One simple gift to each and all,
A blessing to mankind,
I'd like to give back solitude
To a modern, turned-on world,
Flip down some switches, slow the pace,
And tell each boy and girl,
That there's a life out there to live
With things to really DO...
That television can't compete
With adventures lived by you.
I'd take away unneeded noise,
Give back the cricket's song.
And give each soul the dreamy days
Of youth that linger on.
I'd make it mandatory'
That each person once a year,
Would spend a week alone with God
With no hurried schedule near,
To let our Great Creator
Recharge out batteries,
Remove all doubt, renew our strength,
And put our minds at ease.
Jessica, What a lovely poem! So full of faith and hope. It is especially meaningful after the tragedy in NY. You did a very nice job in writing this poem. Helen
