Early Morning

Early morning,

The smell of autumn fills the air.

A light frost has covered the ground,

And it is silent as only that time

Of the day can be.

A soft breeze rustles the multicolored leaves,

Shaking some loose to float

Lazily to the earth below.

One falls onto her skin,

Perfect and white in its stillness,

Frost glitters like diamond dust

Upon her eye lashes

Eyes, wide open and staring into the sky,

Unseeing

If you look deep enough into those eyes

You may see,

Just a glimmer of something,

And you ask yourself

If it might be the image of her last thoughts

Before life left her

To lay so perfect in her stillness,

As she never did in life.
