A Few Wonders From My Windows.

My window boxes please all that go past my Flat. The flowers that the gardener planted this year are a picture to please the eyes of the beholders. Every evening when the sun hides its face it is time for me to water my children, in the lawn outside my windows Hortensias have decided to compete with my Hibiscus bush. Now my hibiscus has a small story behind it. I planted a red flowering plant, a blue flowering plant and then a white flowering plant. Now the three plants have grown into a mixed stately plant. I have the colours of the Union Jack if not the flag I at least have shown my patriotism for the land of my birth. Many wonder why the hibiscus is showing the three colours, they will have to read this my scribble to find out why three different colours seem to growing on one large bush. Yes the branches are a treat to see with the three colours proudly showing through the delicate leaf works of the bush.

I bought a lawn mower over on one of my holidays in the UK, but alas it was no match for the tough Austrian grass growing in the front lawn of the block of flats. We have many song birds that awaken us with a heavenly music every day. I admire the Austrian songbirds they do not fly off to a warmer climate in winter, no they stay here braving the snow and ice and the cold temperatures. We humans wear warmer clothing and are well wrapped up against the cold; I can only hope that our bird friends that sing so beautifully have extra warm feathers to keep out the cold of winter.

If one keeps one’s eyes open one will see that Austria is a paradise for the animal world. I went to school to learn all about hunting, my father in law was a hunter and even at his high age he still went out on his own in his hunting reviere. My wife’s mother worried when he went hunting because of his high age that is why I really went hunting. I must admit I shot on deer that was ill. I more or less put the animal out of its misery. My camera was a much better weapon in my eyes. I have seen many different kinds of animals from weasels to stoat’s, wild mountain goats, deer and many more an eye opener for a town man. Nature has so many surprises if one only keeps quiet and ones eyes open. I often stand with my back to a tree and wait for the wild life to show itself. No quick movements or noise of any kind will reward you with pictures that some never see in the whole of their lives. One must keep still and quiet. Give it a try no matter where you live all Countries are blessed with wild life try my method and you will get the thrills of seeing nature at its best. This I can safely promise you Nature has never let me down and many of the shy creatures have I seen through just keeping still and quiet.

Another tip, when up in the mountains on hot days or when there are thunderstorms. Keep clear of cows and horses out on the Alps for the summer grass and mountain plants many are not used to being disturbed by humans that they do not know. Hardly a year goes by without somewhere in the mountains cows or horses out to pasture are disturbed by noisy Humans and they attack. If you see these animals grazing put a fair distance between yourself and the animals one never knows when one will because of the suns heat or the noise from the humans attack keep well away from these animals after all they are sent or taken to the Alps to graze on the rich grass with its many herbs, The milk they give after eating this rich diet is wonderful. Try not to break the chain let them eat and do not disturb them. Have a wonderful holiday in the Alps of Europe. Good health comes from a week or two wandering over the mountains but please leave the animals in peace. This plea is from your scribbler Bern a lover of Nature and its wonders for those that take the trouble to look for them.
