The Caregiver

She sits alone at the bedside.

Endless days and nights of watching, caring, praying.

Her heart is weary, her soul is torn, but still she fights to give but just one more day.

One more day - to be able to stroke her hair, to touch her hand,

To say "Mom, I love you."

Will tonight be the night both souls will find peace?

She sits alone at the bedside.

Pray for her my friends!

Author's Notes/Comments:

I lost my best friend to Cancer a few months back.  This is dedicated to her daughter with love and gratitude.  The three year battle the two of them waged was so valiant and the end so hard to bear! Her name was Inge.  Please take a second to read my tribute to her in Peaceful Journey... It is seldom in this lifetime that you can truly say "Friend".

This is a great tribute to a great caregiver.
Just as your poems to Inge, were a great tribute to her.
How hard it must be on families as well, as the patients themselves.

Lesa,it is such a terrible thing to lose a loved one. When you work with the elderly you lose people quit often and you never really get used to it. But it is far harder to lose a peer it brings our evenutality all to close to home. How true the words,Will tonight be the night both souls find peace. Because we suffer each pain, each struggled breath, each hearbeat with them ...thankyou once again for a beautiful piece of work from an obviously talented Lady, Sincerly Lorraine
