Death By Touch

22

“What the bloody ‘ell are you doin’ ‘ere?” The black flames instantly begin to swirl around her.
This was surely my son’s widowed wife.
The soreness of my body returns as I hold up my hands in peaceful surrender. “I only came to speak to my one and only love that I had lost centuries ago. I speak to you the truth when I say that I did not know that you were Miss Crimson Carmella Critec.”
“You liar! You said my name the day came over to get the bloody potion!”
“I believed your name to be Zrimdon. It was what my son always called you, I believed it your name.”
She relaxes and the flames disperse. “You- you truly call him your son now?”
I nod. “Yes, I have ever since the funeral. I did not lie when I made that announcement.”
She looks as if she is about to cry but only sighs in reluctance. “I know why you have come. The only question is to whom have you come for?”
I smile at her and have the insatiable urge to run and embrace her. I do not though. “I have come to see my one and only love from centuries ago, as I had said before.”
She sits then proceeds to rise in chair and levitate around the room in her chair. “Do you still have anything of hers?” She inquires as she picks several things from a shelf.
“Yes, I do.” I reach into my coat pocket and pull out a pure white handkerchief and hold it up to her. Her wrist flinches and it is snatched from my hand. “She carried it with her wherever she went.” I smile as the memory floods back. “She said it was to help and comfort those who lost a love and dry their over flowed eyes.”
“How sweet,” she mumbles in annoyance. “I shall resurrect your dark love-”
“No!” I say to immediately correct her. “No, she is not of the night and of the dark. She is of the pure and of the light.”
At that, Miss Critec turns to look and my, confused.
I smile sheepishly and feel my cheek getting warm. “She was the daughter of the Goddess Aphrodite.”
Her eyes open wide and she begins to put several items back onto the shelves and pull several others off. “You of all things were actually with a creature of pureness and light? Unbelievable.”
“However unbelievable it may be, it is true.”

In an amazing turn and trait of things, Miss Critec and I conversed for sometime about my son, without me being thrashed into anything. I find that as progress.
“Alright, I have everything I need.” She turns to me. “Do you know exactly what you are going to say once you meet her again?”
I shake my head. “I decided it would be best to just improvise.”
She nods and begins to mumble something as a crimson light appears around her and three more of her step from her body; one in a flowing crimson and black silk robe, another dressed completely in crimson twenty-first century wear, and the last draped in black and crimson leather. The one in leather moves to the center of the room draws a circle in the middle of the room and puts several items into the middle of it. The one in modern wear flicks her wrist and the circle begins to glow. The one in the flowing robe pours an odd liquid into the circle over top of the other ingredients, and the Miss Critec that the others had filed out of flicked her wrist laying my love’s handkerchief over top of everything in the circle. The all stand around the circle, palms outstretched to the middle of it and begin to mumble an odd incantation into it as well. Final, they clap their hands together and shove them back into the middle of the circle. A flash of blinding white light appears and I am forced to cover my eyes.
Then I hear it.
I hear the sweet melodic laughter.
I instantly pull my arm from my eyes to gaze upon the purest creation to grace this ever deadening earth.
She smiles to me, draped in pure white clothing. “My Moon,” she grins. “It is such a pleasure to see you once again.”
I smile to her as well, as the four Miss Critecs exit from the room and leave us to our privacy. “Words shall never be able to describe how I feel at this very moment and being able to see you after so many centuries.”
I see a white glow shimmer around her hand as she steps forward and brushes a tear from my cheek.
I chuckle. “I did not even notice I was crying.”
She laughs as well and waves her hand, making a table and two chairs appear. “Let us sit and converse. I want to know all that has happened to you since my passing.”
I nod, take my seat across from her, and begin to tell everything up unto now. She nods, smiles, and laughs in all the right places. Her face grows grim and empathetic at all the appropriate times. She even begins to cry when I tell her of my son.
She wipes her eyes. “I see that you have had quite the busy life and am not the least bit surprised to hear that you and marvelous Melarvious are still good friends. I am also touched by your son’s courageous and selfless act and am thrilled to hear you shared such a wonderful and glorious moment with Melarvious. It was never truly a secret to how she felt for you. You were always clueless as to why she would act odder than usual.”
I look down at the table and smile self-consciously. “Yes, well I was always either fearful of clueless to the matters of the heart.”
“Or both,” she chimes.
I laugh. “Or both,” I agree.
“As you are with this mortal girl you are acquaintances with,” she taunts. “By the way, what is her name? You have yet to tell me this girl’s name.”
I bow my head once more, then look back up to my love. “Her name is Remembrance Atreyu Ballad.”
She twitters and claps her hands together. “My Moon! You have finally met her? I am so happy My Moon!” She places her elbows upon the table, entwine her fingers, and places her chin onto the knuckles of her hands. “Tell me My Moon. Have you two hugged or kissed yet? Have you touched at all?”
I shake my head. “Do not be so obscured My Love. You know that I may not touch a single living being or creature.”
She nods. “Yes, yes I know, but at the time she begs for your kiss. Kiss her.”
“My Love!” I say aghast. “You cannot believe me to-”
“Do you trust me My Moon?”
I hesitate but nod my head yes.
“Then do not question my motives for what I say. She has taken quite a fondness for you My Moon, as I had intended for her to do. Though I have also implanted it into her to stay and take your neglect and oh, so cold shoulder, but for so long. She will not always be there for you to treat her as a measly toy you wish to play with anytime you feel. She is human and feels just as you and I do. Do you understand?”
I am taken aback by My Love’s comments and do not know exactly what to say.
“Do you understand My Moon?”
“My Love,-”
“Kiss me.”
I sit there dumbfounded once again.
“Do not fret My Moon. I have strengthened since the last time we encountered.” Her oh, so sweet lips formed within a smile, a beacon, to me, though I only shake my head in fear. She chuckles behind closed lips. “It is time for me to go now My Moon. Kiss me and say goodbye. Get the closure you so desperately need.”
Did I really want to say goodbye so soon? It has been so wonderful to be with her again. There were so many things that I wished to do with her, so many acquaintances that I wanted her to meet after so long. Sighs. I trusted her and her odd ways, though. I trusted the decisions she made and told me to make. There was always a good reason behind them that never ceased to appear shortly after the decision was made.
I hesitate then nod my head and smile. “I shall miss you and you shall always be within my heart.” I place my hand upon her cheek and pause right before my lips meet hers. “Farewell, My Love.” I pause once more. “Farewell…”
