The Sorrow Land

Poetry

Collapse awake to the sudden sunken ships of watermarks and mail slots
Skeletons floating up to the promises of dry land
But I’d rather be hidden and wet than dry and scared
Out of our minds
Seashell tales turn sour when we see our souls for who they were
And who they will be
Swim down past the milky mouths and shark fins
Past the dispensable bodies they burn in piles
Past the drones and wire cord muscles
To the sorrow land of mermaid songs,
Where the only true meaning is the beating of soggy hearts
Castles of stone from a bottomless beneath
Built up from our fevers
Gold blood work for the forever drifting
How free those fish
So I rant rant rant
Til I break break break break
And our fathers whisper in the snow deep
