“I’ll trade you my body,” The mermaid squirmed
The squid watched
“you’ll know beauty. Your skin diamonds, whatever you desire.
You’ll have the power to make men mad.
Murder even, if your lucky
But never play their games.
And if you get hungry simply swallow them whole!”
The squid wondered, his eyes lost
“I’ll trade you my mind,” The mermaid moaned
The squid waited
“you’ll know summer’s soft harmony
As it’s salty kiss swims through your lazy thoughts
Your daybreak dreams.”
The squid thought.
Beautiful blonde, emerald green… such a sad concept
Then rising, raspy his voice came;
“I’d rather hide in the deep, than hide in my mind.”
She looked punctured, embarrassed
“How dare you!
How dare you pretend to be above
when you are
so far
below!”
She clawed and flapped, kicked and spat
And cried.
Teardrops shimmered like crystals,
Reflecting her wilted truth
The squid saw beauty so hollow it made him tremble.
She had as much as she could hold,
Swallowed in her gold and treasure chests
Crowns of confusion
Rings of sunken triumph
“Poor prison.” The squid swallowed,
As she tried peeling off her skin
Drowning in desperation
Floating away,
Back down to his caves
And ink
