In Your Father's Name

Folder:
Poetry

will you drain me from your frozen bones
your seashell heart
of fire escapes and sun drenched skies
did you know me before time?
this godless shadow, sunken silhouettes
when you died in the front seat
you burned in your fathers name

on the washed up shores of our young
we hide and seek and pity and fear
we clench our fists like family
to control you is to lose you
again and again and again
to fool you is to love you
again and again and again
to tell you what you love to hear
we pretend to make amends

dance like fire breath like wind freeze like water
forced to forgive what you'll never forget
in lovers in freedom in friends
so you keep her inside that dusty frame
you keep her forever in frozen time
liquid branches
just a game of chance, a glimpse of change
hangs like constellations in the dark
across your window:
a knife turns inside out
and the coffee turns to scribbled words
and the blood shoots down the droppers neck
and guilt eats skin
and the baby cries for touch
to finally be loved back by someone who loves you more than they know
to love you more than they'll ever know

we mask our faults, swallow our faith
hide our stench cover our face
will we crucify will we blend like paint
roam like dogs with watchful eyes
crack like leaves buried to roots
inside your fear that worried tomb
your fingers
peel
and part

to find you is to follow you
again and again and again
