Mary's Adventure

Mary's Adventure

Mary was a beautiful light-skinned girl with beautiful curly blond hair who lived in Northern Africa. With lots of vanity, always trying to be thin and with the best hair. With her crude smile and mean eyes, you could see that even though she was pretty, she was mean. She was a cruel girl because she enjoyed hunting and capturing wild animals. She shot them and then placed them in her house as decoration.

It was three in the afternoon when she decided to leave to the forest to hunt. She traveled with the sole ambition of capturing an elephant, a giraffe or perhaps an ostrich. Upon reaching the camp, Samira took out her already loaded rifle and positioned herself face down to try to locate an animal. She fixed his sight on a coyote that was in the distance when he saw a very peculiar flower. A flower of pink petals with a center gold color, very striking and bright. She got interested in her and she pulled it off the ground. As she did this, she felt her body was changing as if his hair fell and her skin became hard. When he looked at her feet, she saw that she only had three fingers that ended with ugly long fingernails. She saw her belly had feathers, thick black feathers that covered his body. She cried all night as she noticed she had transformed, as if she were a bird... or an ostrich! She had become a fat, shaggy ostrich. She wanted to cry but she could not either, she felt confused and sad. In the distance she heard the engine of a truck. She thought that could help her and ran to her. After several minutes of running through arid land he saw the truck stop. Thinking that she was already safe, she approached and the only thing she heard was a shot, a tranquilizing bullet that put her to sleep.

She then woke up in the light of day. There were some men speaking Spanish (which Mary did not understand) and unloading the boxes that contained the plane. She could see that it was a big and beautiful airport. In the distance she saw a sign that said "Benito Juárez Airport", she wondered what country would Benito Juarez would be, she did not know a country with that name. The boxes were moved with her, in which she was inside. She managed to see another sign but this time it was one that said, "Welcome to Mexico." It was obvious, now she knew he was in Mexico and was heading to the Mexico City Zoo. She arrived at the Zoo and was moved together with 3 other boxes. Mary was very nervous and worried because she did not know what awaited for her there. After half an hour arrived a young man with dark skin and short black hair arrived with a chain which she tied in Mary’s neck. He tied it around his neck and started walking. Mary felt the pain of the chain with which she had been tied and walked forcibly feeling the pain. He was relieved when the caregiver took the chain off.

The minutes seemed like hours and the hours seemed like days. Mary began to lose track of time and started suffering thinking that she would never leave the cage. This is how she realized that she used to be very damaging to the animals and that they also felt bad when damaged. Hours of reflection lead her to understand that animals are like us humans.

Between thought and thought she saw hoe they left the door of his cage open. Vigorously she turned away and saw that the guard had not closed it completely. At that moment he ran out and quickly left the zoo without being observed. She then fell and closed her eyes, to wake up in back home in Africa.
