Forgiveness

High School

to write of times with you still can make me sad.

but writing of things long gone are meant to do just that.

and yes, in the sunlight, we were also gold.

and green on the top floor when we snuck in there alone.

and as we danced, we felt the sea, we were always beautiful-

the twirling lights of the city faded in your glow.

but you must forgive me for those times i loved you selfishly.

when i desperately held you so close you couldn't even breathe.

the times when i called you mine even though you weren't.

and fought the coming of the night,

for fear the darkness was a curse.

forgive me for the times when i unfairly drowned in hurt,

and yelled for you to listen as i pushed you to a place

so far away, you never could have heard.

i remember the feel of your skin on mine, the night i turned sixteen.

you held me close and whispered that you would never leave.

golden then, but still golden now, i forgive you for these words.

i forgive you for all that you'll be without me,

and everything you were.
