Took My Chances

Folder:
2009 Poems

I took my chances,

Ran as fast as I could

Over the hills,

Deep into the woods

Just as far as I could get,

To be safe and sound

but nowhere I could be found

I took my chances,

Drove all the way to the airport,

On Route 84

I took all I could get in the back

Of my old but faithful car

I didn’t think of the consequences,

Just wanted to get away and far

I took my chances,

and boarded the plane

I knew where I was headed,

But wasn’t sure what was on the other side

All I knew is that I was ready

and conscious of the ride

and as I took my seat, I closed my eyes

and felt like I hadn’t felt in a long time

I took my chances,

A chance that failed

Perhaps if I were different,

Then I would have excelled

Am I ready to take a chance again,

Or is it better to wait and see

Stay here in a place I can’t stand,

While I prepare what is waiting for me
