Another Day

A dog wakes up from his slumber. He shakes himself up and goes look for his master. After greeting his master and playing with him for a little while he barks happily, waiting for his food to be served. He eats it with pleasure and goes outside to the front porch, where his toys are waiting for him to munch endlessly throughout the day. As he’s munching away he feels an obnoxious presence in front of him.

A cat wakes up in her bed. She stretches her back, yawns, and goes looking for her “servant”. After announcing her presence she meows, demanding that her breakfast be served. Slowly and silently she finishes her food, gives her milk plate a few licks, and goes outside to lay under the sun for a while. As she steps outside she sees that stupid dog in her usual place, drooling all over his toys.

The cat crosses the street ignoring all the rubble there’s around her. She greets the dog in a smarmy and condescending way. The dog tries to keep his cool, knowing that the cat is there again only to stir up trouble.

-“What are you doing here?”

-”What does it look like I’m doing? It’s been so long since I last visited. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had the time to talk to my best friend. You’re lucky I was able to take some time off to come today.”

-” Well I appreciate the visit, but you can get on with your day now, I don’t like to be disturbed during my play time.”

-”Typical of a lazy bum like you. Always slacking off without a care in the world.”

-” Well that’s the only way to live.”

-” Oh yeah, living under the rule of an evil tyrant? How does it feel having to obey every single one of his commands day after day? Rolling on the floor, shaking his hand, playing dead.”

-” It’s a win win situation. I do what he wants me to do, and he keeps me fed and clean. Beats having to sleep on the street. Beside, I don’t see the benefit in treating your master like crap like you do.”

-” My master? He’s lucky I even let him sleep in the same room as I do. I’m the master, he does what I want him to do.”

-” Oh come on, you know you’re no better than me. I’ve seen you being toyed with with that red laser thing countless times.”

As they go on with their argument their respective owners go out of their house in a sudden hurry, as if they’re both running for their lives. Both get in their cars and hurriedly drive off on to the road. Both pets wonder what’s going on with their owners and finally see all of the mess that is going on around them. The street is full of rubble the skies are red and the houses around them are collapsing. They were so engrossed in their argument that they ignored what was going on around them. They soon realize that their owners left them behind and silently watch as the world around them comes to an end.
