WHEN THE HAND OF GOD STRIKES

Hosni Mobarik has also gone
Even though he did not like to
Quit the halls of power and fame.
So the somewhat uneventful day
Has brought about a change
In the lives of the Egyptian people
Who were groaning under a despot.
So did the Shah of Iran crumble
And in like fashion did the Marcoses go
While thinking they were destined to live
Forever as the rulers of the Phillippines.
Why not go nobly?
Serving the people especially the poor?
Abraham Lincoln embraced martyrdom
And Yasser Arafat died honourably
And is remembered with admiration
By the lovers of freedom the world over.
Power is a fiery intoxicant
That destroys those who drink too much of it.
Let the downfall of Hosni Mobarik
Be a lesson and a grim reminder
To all those who crave for power
And try to behave like Rome's Caesar
Even though Julius was not overtly ambitious
Neither did he long to be a dictator...
Yet he suffered the fate that awaits all those
Who think they were made to live on forever
And break down to pieces when thrown from the 'tower'
The tower of power which corrupts and corrupts
Till the Hand of God Almighty strikes and shatters
As it did today to yet another dictator
Defamed and wearing the robes of dishonour.
