MY SAQI*

I love my veiled Saqi as my eyes can see

The love in the beauteous cup filled for me

My Saqi always arrives to save me from all harm

When the snakes of this world spit venom at me.

Then in the tavern of love and beauty am I taken

And the best drink in the best goblet is given

Though veiled there is this love which I do feel

As the others at the tavern wish they were me.

SAQI: HERE I MEAN GOD, THE GREATEST SAQI OF THEM ALL...ORDINARILY IT REFERS TO A VEILED BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WHO SERVES DRINKS AT HER TAVERN...STARTING WITH THE ONE MOST LOVED. THE TERM WAS/IS COMMON IN THE TAVERNS OF IRAN, INDIA AND EVEN TURKEY EGYPT, SOME PARTS OF ARABIA AND OF COURSE...PAKISTAN.
