I OPENED THE DOOR

COUNTRY POEMS

My heart stopped.  My eyes popped.

My mouth gave a scream and a shout.

This was a dream, and I did'nt know what it was about.

      My tongue hit the floor.

A feeling too great to ignore.

           I opened the door.

My lungs did not dare to breathe.

       My eyes did not deceive.

       I cried with joy.

A boy with his new toys.

         I opened the door.

        A feeling I can't ignore.

        A feeling I can't explain.

A walk in the rain.  A ride by train.

A bowl of ice cream, better than a dream.

           I opened the door.

         It's no lie.  I can't deny.

         Why should I deny?

         I'm in love with you.

         Yes, it's really true.

         No longer am I blue.

            I opened the door.

My hand she took.  I was on the hook.

          She wanted me to understand.

I had only read this in books.

I fell to my knee, you see.

          I opened the door.

          My head felt the bell.

          I was not feeling well.

I looked into her eye; there was no need to ask why.

          I cried.

           Oh, I opened the door.

           Yeah, I opened the door.
