Some say it was Murder.

I myself stood apart and let the others do the talking. Who were the others? Well here I must admit I was not even involved in the conversation. The others were already in the coffee shop when I walked in for a cup of milky coffee. One voice a little louder than the others said, “I say it was murder,” another voice, “How can it be murder no doors or windows were in any way damaged no break in nothing to suggest it was murder. The old dear probably had a heart attack and snuffed it like many elderly people do.

Another voice piped in with if it was murder then why aren’t the Police crawling all over the place, we all know what they are like. I drank and paid for my coffee and went to leave the coffee shop. One of the men stood up and planted himself directly in my way. You are not from around here are you? No I am not so get out of my way. I am not a very big person but I have been trained in one or two Martial Arts. I said get out of my way or there will be some damage done to you and that is no idle threat. Turning his head he spoke to the others sitting gossiping about an elderly lady that had been found dead in her house. He spoke out real loud this bloke is not from around here perhaps we should hold him and give him over to the Police. Three of the men were now standing on their feet. One said, “He don’t look like a murderer to me, he sat down and pulled one of the other men down with him. The man that still stood in my way grabbed me by the wrist and shouted so that all could hear. “I am making a citizen’s arrest.” The next thing he was laying down on the floor. I called to the owner of the coffee shop and asked him to call for a policeman. In a few minutes a Policeman young broad shouldered came into the coffee shop. The owner told him what had happened.

Smiling the Policeman told me that I was free to go and going to the man that had more or less accused me of being a murderer he told him not to meddle in Police business. The man walked off with one of the other men from the coffee shop the last words I heard him say were, “Last time I make a citizen’s arrest and it is the last time that I help the Police. I must admit it now it is something that I can smile at but at the time I am proud of the fact that I did not really hurt the silly little man who wanted his five minutes of glory. He picked on the wrong man, I just hope that he does not tell someone else that they have committed a Murder. What would you have done from your daily scribbler Bern.
