Wedding Balls not Bells.

Jim fell for this pretty girl Susan. Susan was always with her mates and Jim could never catch her on her own. One day the girls were throwing a tennis ball to each other. Jim hoped that the ball would come his way then if he could catch it he could walk over to Susan and give her the tennis ball. The ball was thrown by one of the girls and it bounced on the ground and rebounded into Jim’s hand. This was Jim’s chance and he took the tennis ball to Susan. Jim handed the ball to Susan but she let it fall and said, “Why did you not throw it to one of us?” Jim was at a loss for words and walked away hearing the girls laughing he decided to give up all hopes of getting to know Susan.

Later in the week Jim was in the town and decided to go into a café to drink a cup of tea. He had not been sitting for more than a few minutes when three girls walked in to the café. They did not notice Jim sitting drinking his cup of tea. One of the girls had a tennis ball in her hand and was throwing it into the air and catching it as it fell. The ball fell from her hand and rolled to where Jim was sitting. Jim Picked up the ball and threw it to where the girls were sitting. Unfortunately the ball hit one of the girls on her head. She let out a cry and threw the ball back at Jim.

Jim neatly caught the ball and walked over to where the girls were sitting. He apologised for the ball hitting the girl’s head. Susan then spoke, “ It was you that brought the ball back when we were playing in the yard.” “Yes,” said Jim “And you if I remember rightly asked me why I did not throw the ball back to you.” “This time I thought I was doing the right thing throwing the ball back to you young ladies but it seems that no matter what I do I am always in the wrong.” Susan on hearing Jim's words blushed and asked Jim if he would like to bring his cup of tea to the table where they were sitting then they could have a chat.

Jim went back to his table and taking his cup of tea with him returned to the table where the girls were sitting. Conversation was mainly about Tennis then slowly the other girls; one by one left the café leaving Jim and Susan on their own. Jim plucked up courage and asked Susan if she would consider going to the cinema with him. There was a film being shown that Susan wanted to see and she agreed to meet Jim and go to the cinema with him. The film was a love film and Jim was not very interested but Susan enjoyed the film and now the young couple are going together.

One of Jim’s mates asked him how he managed to meet Susan. Jim replied oh it was just a matter of a tennis ball that got lost a couple of times. I was lucky enough to return it and that is how we met. They have been together now for six years and the wedding is for next Saturday. I have arranged for the local tennis club to hold their tennis racquets above the heads of the newly married couple as the leave the Church. Who know perhaps one of the party will drop another tennis ball and another couple will get together. Who knows?
