Food Stamps

The food stamp program is now called SNAP. Per Google:

"SNAP benefits cost $70.9 billion in fiscal year 2016 and supplied roughly 44.2 million Americans (14% of the population) with an average of $125.51 for each person per month in food assistance.

What is interesting about the Trump proposal to drop a box off to recipients of SNAP is that these people move often, people will steal their food. Politicians look at $70 billion  (14% of the population in 2014) and think too much for folks who do not work. That population is not the same people. As a safety net it helps those who lose employment, can't work because ill, raising five kids as a single parent, et al. They find work and are replaced by other unemployed. They get well go back to work and are replaced. It's a safety net. Making major changes to a program based on the intenet video of a man buying lobster with food stamps was absurd. In the hood, folks buy steaks, sell em, so they can buy toilet paper and toothpast that is not food and not purchasable with the SNAP card.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the United States was worth 18624.48 billion US dollars in 2016

so is that 18.6 trillion? If so, that's makes $80 million a drop in the community bucket compared to how much money (wealth) is generated in one 12 month period. Even when the recession hits (about every ten years and we're due for a hit) $120 million or more is still a drop in the bucket. Trump is looking to take food away from people so he can finance a wall. May he be out of office soon. That kind of thinking: the poor can not protest and have no way to retaliate: does anyone remember 1968? Anyone? You keep a population cool by feeding them, the most basic of needs. I kept telling people to vote. I told them they are going to take away food stamps - this talk is not new. They said they would register and vote. If not for them, who will eventually need food, for friends, relatives, and the neighborhood, the city, the state. Humans are going to eat. At gun point or knife point or just taking it - pampered, like lobster and steak with your food stamps...okay but the mother of five needs milk and cereal and yes meat. The wise will buy cheap cuts. One person can eat what they want. So long as they are not starving - the point at last.

.

Just a few thoughts about what I would feel like getting a box of food monthly from the government. Pissed off, probably. Fraud - any any system that large, it will happen. Grocers over bill, recipients take money in exchange for letting someone else use their card dollars - a sub species of currency. Ending it or controlling what people eat - how is that going to work?

The give em cake philosophy leads to trouble. If not in marches, at the poles. 2018 is what the chinese philosopher had in mind when he said, "May you live in interesting times." Truth told, they are all interesting.
