Unrequited Love

She stares with soulless eyes,
a solace she's never found.

Empty from years of crying,
she saves all emotion for another time.

Lost so many people,
she loved so hard, so purely,
yet happiness continues to evade her.

What she longs for is far from grasp,
miles away, too far to tread.

She gave her heart,
to a love so pure,
only for her world to shatter.

Yet he still holds her heart,
with half-truth promises of a future.

What good is it to love,
when all you do is lose?

Tired of being strong,
yet she has no choice.

His shoulder is no longer there,
so she continues alone.

How can one love so much,
yet that love be denied?

When will he see
all she wants is forgiveness,
a chance to reclaim what was lost.

Forever is as foreign as fairy tales,
something she doesn't believe in.

All her heart needs is love,
but only one will do.

As her love is again denied,
she dies a little more.

Will her love ever be returned,
or will she forever wait,
gazing up at starry nights alone.
