Sleepless Wonder

There in a day when sleep fails

I expect the echoes of the night

But the crickets are sleeping, dogs

are no where in sight

The wind must have taken a break

because the stillness is a deadly fright

I gaze at the moon and the stars

both lacking their lack luster light

I wonder why the night is so still

could I be a spirit in the night

I feel my body for a hint of life

my heart starts racing with fright

The darkness starts getting darker

there‘s no light left in sight

The stars become even dimmer

The Moon has disappeared in the night

I close my eyes to the stillness

and I wonder my plight

When slumber finally finds me

I wonder if I’ll wake up another night
