New Perception

Once, education was not compulsory

Folks didn’t even know that word

Nor of its fleeting promises

Soaring aloft as if a bird.

There was no angst for clock to read

Nor print, but sun to rise ‘round

‘bout the time work began and ended

When it gently sat down.

Rudimentary life was that direction

Eastward to embrace the morning sun

Embracing labor as if love

Westward ‘til the day was done.

With literacy comes new perception

-Adjectives on nouns with verbs kissing-

Now I’m lost alone in cognition

Of all that I’d been missing.
