SPENT FORCE

SPENT FORCE

Jostling for space and elbowing others at stations,

The maddening crowd haplessly buzzes around;

Getting themselves squeezed out; but still

With human endurance they reach their work sites.

Their hopes never fade off, for they got to graft;

With minds on family, they have their nimble hands at work;

Perching eyes of cameras make them ever so vigilant,

As they know they got to work without minding pain!

Painstaking jobs still get them meager sums;

On pay-day when they count, they find it less than adequate!

‘Never mind’ the mind says, and they keep borrowing

To provide for their offspring with essential needs.

Younger days could inject strength to help you carry through;

You could work and run tirelessly; but then

The verge of retirement has vacuumed your mental strength!

How long you can pull on with liabilities still on board?

Oh, Man!  You are a spent force!  And then

Nothing you’ve got to offer except love and advice;

Who needs all these for they are quite cheap!

Nevertheless, you’ve become a liability to your own family!

‘Money’ is what is sought after and ‘Oldies’ are lest looked after!

Even ‘Kith and Kin’ becomes aliens when they got to spend on you!

Hey!  Though you’d like to remind them of their fast approaching old-age,

Still you’d hold your tongue; for you want them to be ever young!

Author's Notes/Comments:

Old people get scant respect from younger ones as they are considered as a spent force.  Though the oldies offer their love and advice, nobody needs them. Nevertheless they think that the younger generation should remain ever young so that what happened to them in their old age they could avoid when they get old.
