Patience

Why does the world want us bitter?

To tick with constance of a watch,

Never to break the rhythm,

To smile to those we know,

Love those we should,

Abandon those who can't be "fixed",
Each time I extend my arm it's slashed,
The scar tissue wrapping around it like armor,
Why does it get so much harder to feel?
But still so often we are hurt,

I'll admit the world has made me stronger,

But only in spite of its own efforts to mold me,
I'm told that it changes,
That if I have patience it will pass,
But when the patience is gone what will I have?
