To The Self Righteous In All Of Our Churches

You would bolt, from inside, the church's doors, the doors!,
admiting only those you call the born again,
who look, and talk, and think like you, and above sin;
but not those tax collectors and those whores,
and those who did not vote your political ticket,
and who disrespect your upright, white picket
fences; and who have not settled all their scores.
But what you fear, and what will most appall
you, is how they remind you where you had once been,
before someone shared with you the Gospel's call.
