Juneteenth 06-19-1865

June 19, 1865 was the date slavery was abolished in Texas. The holiday is celebrated predominantly in Southern states by Blacks And is picking up a following in the rest of the country.

.

Trump rescheduled to the 20th following  criticism that the date was intentionally chosen To disrupt the holiday. He had no idea what Juneteenth was, when it was celebrated, and by whom or why. Along with the majority of the rest of the citizenry of USA. Black poets have been writing about it for the past 50 years. I doubt the Trumet reads a lot. Where's a Black Conservative when you need one? Clarence, you should have told DT to avoid 06-19.

.

Now, if we had a flag, maybe white people could ban it as a reminder and celebration of a racist institution. Somehow, that doesn't seem to work. It's like "ma niggah". The word symbolically buried by the NAACP - white people can't use that. Besides, Juneteenth collectively symbolizes the end of the institution signified by that other flag.

.

I do not celebrate it, but on 06-19 I pause and look it up again and say, "Today is Juneteenth." I guess that is a commemoration of sorts. At least when it hit the media, I knew what it was.
