Allet's Poetic Aesthetic

If I had one it would begin with epistemology (The study of the nature of knowledge, justification, and rationality of belief) per Wikipedia, and the four philosophy courses I took, loving Metaphysics best which ruined me for life. The "isness" of everything owns me. Then, advance to DaDa with sprinklings of surrealism in there dreaming a different reality. Throw in a vocabulary mostly not used, include the absence of rhyme (except in the 1 or 2 sonnets attempted long ago) and substitute internal rhymes in blank verse (see Sestina Paradox).

.

In the background is usually a drummer going insane, Alice's rabbit being late, and a lot of contemporary news that is anti-Conservative Republican. Yep, I am a back woods Baptist with The Republic on my mind as in how it is vanishing. The Constitution is coughing. Eventually, those who are thoughtful will step up to the microphone and demand a megaphone. It begins, the backlash, the response to the noise, the caterwauling of copulating cats outside the bedroom window - may they be silenced for a thousand years. Sanity will return and politics will become boring again. Then pretty poetry written by females will return with a serious slant with allusions to really diverse faces, Butch leaders in power, and smart women in high places, and like that. For starters. We will probably be into anti-war verses come 2020 if not sooner.

.

The selection of topic usually defaults to being political in flavor, by innuendo, or snidely as if a surreal joke, but usually plain spoken. Sometimes my moody muse gets back in town after a prolonged whisky binge and other stuff I do not know about personally, to create together "a poem". A real one. It is a rare occurrence. Over 4000 poems written over the past seven years are being revised to address the present mindset, and aesthetic that denies contractions and give the word "not" its due respect. Is and are and can are words from the etymological lexicon and thus must be allowed to breathe. They deal with existence - oh adult!

.

Cursing and God references are out unless the poem is about God and cursing.. We have tons of that on PostPoems and I recently found a writer who was offended but in light of a wide open editorial policy here, I simply rewrote mine without all the elements that approached my complaint; cursing at other poets and referencing women as man-toy nake with vagina and vulva substitue words everywhere.

.

Limited curse words, little or not profanity rules once more. Only a few references to God (religion is acceptable) but, for me, in a secular context mostly. Why, to avoid clashes with Eastern philosopher-poets. We as usa denizens tend to be insular, ponderously isolationist when wide open and accepting is best. Everyone believes there is only one god, or that their pantheon of gods and godesses are the cat's meow. All topics welcome so long as it is not about graphic porn or hell for hell sake.

Note: Some of the satanic verses on PostPoems are quite well woven and fine art - if you can bypass the coming of the anti-christ references - I just could NOT get through Revelations. Scary. That says a lot about my aesthetic in terms of what I avoid or glide over quickly. Or read and stop, go on to the next poet. Unless very well written, cleverly provisioned, and artisically drowning in similes and metaphors - then I am just stuck. Misogyny will not get past this poet's inner eye. Women rock! So do men! Devils are devilish when well done, I have determined. Recalling lots of prose on the topics above and below, I do not believe religion as written - "the word" has to be given an imagination of "mostly men" perspective and a need to defy Romans or some other regime in power for the past several centuries. Religions come, go. Not a lot of people are talking about Odin and his entourage being the only true dieties any more..

.

Enter warlocks and the neo text on nature worship (wiccanology). Consider Baal as a movement or organized philosophy or god or series of references and allusions, he is just a lil demon - but not big in the 21st Century news. So much to contend, hence, avoided or used sparingly, usually voiced as the opposite of what I believe or clearly stated to dismiss the male dismissal of the religious lives of females (still will never get over those virgins, Islam). That's just insulting. Quietiskept! So god references are mostly outside allet's version of versification. I have written a few poems that embody the elevational impact of the sacred and holy, but it is not a predominant form for me. Poem: St. Peter will meet me at the Pearly Gates and pull me aside. "We are going to let you in," he will say. "We just have a few questions." Like that.

.

Topics - I did the word a day challenge and actually wrote a poem a day from a pre-selected word list on PostPoems. So, safe to say, any topic is possible, with the few exceptions listed above. I avoid poems about female body parts - maybe I should do a series using the medically correct nomenclature, i.e., substitute breasts for mammary glands or some such, will consult a Taber's Medical Dictionary - I have one around here somewhere. There have to be a list of synonyms for vagina, (right SS?).

.

I prefer teaching mostly (Liberal Arts will do that to a writer) aka educational writes more than any other formats and forms with the exception of satire; tongue through cheek smack downs! I am snide. I know. But in defense of looking at the world sidewise, I am a hoot with a great sense for what is humorous disguised as entertainment. I hide it, because I'm shy. What wisdom I have accumulated in my 69 years is shared, but only in part, to keep the weather cool. As you all know who get upset when I talk too much about what I REALLY FEEL. We mus live with it.

.

You may not successfully attack a human's belief systems without repercussions and "the reply" must  be written in the comment section. I am  too astute to miss the sarcastic answers and allusions that are of no importance. I write and will write and once all is revised, I will be back with a force of letters and a pocket full of anti-Conservative political spiels masquerading as poetry that adheres in spirit to the rules and regulations of Prosody while teaching and laughing. You betcha!

.

Going inside the image and milking it like a cow's (whatchamacallit) is what I do a lot while mostly sticking to one or two themes per poem. If metaphors get mixed, pardon me: other criteria rule; scansion, metrical feet, timing, internal demands of the text aligned with available vocabulary. Why be clear when muddying the page with allusions is where I live best. I believe that all poets are liars - we create it as we go. One must take into consideration the woefully incompetent tools available to writers - words being the major contributor to the lies. That whole "TRUTH" and poet callings was a rumor and was in very bad taste. So, that is my poetry aesthetic in small. Ask me next year and it will have evolved. Growth is what all poets should aim for if they wish to remain contemporary. Note to the novice writer: Getting high and writing does not open any doors of perception. That is what prosody does. Ha! Be well.

Thanks For The Read

I am still finding typos. I was writing forsynthia (a favorite flower in my yard) and sweetwater spelled if for me: forsythia - which is prettier. I learned. Again, thanks for the read and the snickering. Much appreciated because it was the intent. - slc
