Then It Rained

Black Poetry

Too long the sun

unveiled cracked brown

earth and new growth

died on sered twigs.

No one heeded the cries

of the dying, ignored

the source of near

petrified wood for fire

when cold rains came.

Some defined heat

as naturally God-blessed.

The blackened seeds

kept protesting until

it rained and a seed

leaf was given permission

to be green.
