Difference Is

Black Poetry

Difference is a world nuclear irradiationed

glowing in the heavens with no one to see it.

Or, the difference is one and half more years

or five and a half more years of racism.

ignorance, and illiteracy.

The actual difference is as clear as a

mirror and what is seen without enhancement,

what is unrehearsed, what is pure. Bathed

in our shame or faults, humans survive

and consider differences.

And when the decisions are made

and the shock wears off, if life-possible,

we will pull ourselves up as if puppeted

and stringed, to declare the heart

is pulsing and choices will remember

the differences of the past.
