Rain, Rain

Vintage Words

Rain, please go away

well, not entirely. Come

when the land is sere

and the dirt cracked'

not now when the woods

are swamps and the rivers

little seas.

Rain, rain, go away

come again when the sun

is too hot and the plants

tilt and cough for water.

Awe.   Had a little

Had a little rain,

more like a drizzle

just a minute

like a wet swizzle

Though summer is here

and the heat just sizzles
