Still Not Reading

A New View

It is hard, I know. To pick up a book

and run the eyes from side to side

and hold the book up close

because the words blur and are too

big to comprehend.

I know, it is a chore to read a page

of something that you do not know about

or ever will at this pace. To travel,

to fly, to walk into an ancient room

and look around is not for you.

If I had not read, I would not have gone

to other worlds, met interesting creations,

sailed ocean with Hornblower, stormed

the Bastille with Dickens. I guess The National

Inquirer could be thought of as literature.
