Enough Goodbyes

Vintage Words

I take to waking slower than usual,

savoring not the dream but the aftemath.

Death is hanging out by the bed post again

and I wave her off. I don't like her

wand or her wardrobe.

Going down for a nap or the night

results in a refusal to let go

and so the past returns like an ancient

ally and we renegotiate contracts

to keep the bed warm.

Dreams are a way for humans

to take a vacation without acually

taking one. We board the train

and speed toward glory, barely

remembering the five to six

dreams we have each time, glad

to awaken and find reality

standing at the foot of the bed

instead of girlfriend.

"Savoring not the dream but the aftermath"

I love this! I feel like it could explain looking back too, we love memories more than moments.
