It Is Not That

Vintage Words

Celebration of happiness

demonstrated in Time's Square;

security peaked, confetti falling

on lovers loving and lips

kissing at the correct time.

Music and dancing forcefully brings

joy for a few hours of public

delight accompanied by carefree

exhibitions of unlimited laughter.

It is not that perpetual happiness

ensued, smiles survived, and we slept

and woke to smile again. It is not

that the news is worse, or more

attention stealing or that we

turn it off as time moves so that

we might pause and snicker at

humanity and force a georgeous grin

at the sardonic stranger in the mirror.
