Have you ever imagined that you are a spark

of hot electricity originating in some

dynamo a hundred thousand wire miles

away, arriving dutifully to, let us

for imaginary argument's sake say,

power up a computer or charge a cell phone.

If you have not done this electric exercise,

of running through wires, across vast distances,

to terminals and relay stations, then dancing

along wind and rain tortured landscapes

to dive underground and up to greet houses

and their innards, then you have not

lived.
