Ten Steps

Vintage Words

I would swear on a stack of Webster’s

Dictionaries these promises made

by unanimous vote are valid but I use

an on-line dictionary and can’t touch

it like a sacred text.

Ten steps to writing well or better

is not enough steps. Such program

content is not massive enough

to sink in. Sometimes poets vote

against their best interest.

Twenty five is a good number. Poets

need a bit more time than other groups.

Limits are summarily raised all the time.

Why not more words for writers of verse?

As bright as we are, we are a stubborn lot

and need more time to pro and con,

discuss, investigate, poll, and equivocate.

Yes, twenty five steps minimum.
