Vintage Words

Sand without moisture has grit

is like a leaf with no dew that

still has the next dawn. What has

no shell or skin owns form

and depth and can become dehydrated

the way an absence of words says

nothing of what churns in thoughts?

What is sand without a castle, without

an hourglass? What is the irritation

in both gym shoes?

A good poet can give invisibility

substance, the intactile touch,

and voila! Something fairly phenomenal

created from complete and absolute

nothingness like sand falling as

time or sand blowing around

the ankles.
