The inability to stop

consuming art

and food and cars

and money.

Space and the neighbor's

latest acquisition

mean that yesterday's

newspapers must be yours.

Fat with a head full

of dreams at action used

for the squandering of

resources at the expense

of a child having a meal.

No shame in trampling

wheat to get to the full

and ripe grape arbor.

Unable to fill up the belly

or the bank account

enough, or any empty

space that your need

says must be bursting

with the bulk of your

appetite. Unjustly,

the plate is never

full for long.

i like

that you included art as something we consume with greed.  people tend to hold the arts above other forms of consumption, but it's consumption just the same.  ultimately, reading "the grapes of wrath" on your ipad and facebooking for the same amount of battery power are essentially the same thing.  one has more culture, that's all.  (which one?  just depends on which side of the generation gap you're on).

I Hope

future generations trash us big time and change their consumer choices to be environment conscientious. I hope we leave them better choices than we had. ~Stella~

This poem really made me

This poem really made me think about the greed in many people's lives, so many have so much unnecessary baggage, while others die through the lack of it, a very unfair division of amenities. I especially enjoyed the last verse. Sue.
