Create A Legacy

Vintage Words

Take a lot of photographs

and send them out each holiday.

Lend a good word when needed

or when not needed. Make

the smile a permanent fixture

and follow up with exceptional

Love children, yours, theirs,

other people's offspring. There

are no downsides to extending love

across generations. When you

grow old, infirm, and can not

remember well, youth will arrive

and make you glad.

Do it well, everything you touch,

make it as perfect as you have ability

and time to make it. Leave lots

of footprints and lots of published

works or art or speeches or plays.

Correspondence means sometime

in the future someone you don't know

will read the letter found chugged

in an old suitcase or trunk and read

what you said. This is the essence

of legacy.

To be remembered, to be found

as if a bottled message, adrift on time

like a season, an era, or a one time excursion

that was brilliant once with fresh crisp edges

and later becomes faded and dogeared;

the signature obscured with age

and the scent of what once was.

I met this lady who was concerned about her legacy. To be remembered is important the closer you get to the tomb. You don't think about it when young, too busy creating it  I suppose. Legacy. Something to ponder.
