Just Walk

Vintage Words

I see them all spiffy in those

designer shoes and shorts,

the shirt flashing as if a flag

of a very well financed nation.

I walk as they ride by on bikes

looking like Johnny Weissmuller at

the Olympic trials. I hear bells

saying you are in my right of way.

Please move. This road is mine

and not yours.

But walking, enjoying the subtle

build up of sweat, the tug and pull

of muscles long dormant that scream,

Slowly! The designer labels are old

or non-existent. Still the walker

is not adverseto really cool

It is a wobbly non-linear stroll,

less stride than street walk leaned.

No matter how, move. Lift one foot,

balance, shift, lift other

foot. Done.
