Peas and Carrots

A long lonely hall of gray
It screams for color
The crayon in my hand
Will do the trick
But it’s washable
Removable
I long for something permanent

So I’ll take a risk
I’m running with scissors
Like Johnny and Jenny sing.
Coincidental? No.
It was meant to be
Just you wait and see
Just you wait and see!

Barely seventeen
But I swear to God she’s twenty-five
Every minute she has seen
Do no equate what’s within her mind

And I feel just like a kid again
Like she knows something more
Running down an empty hall
The snips clutched oh so tight
An untied shoe will make me fall
That’s when I’ll see the light.

Try not to cry for milk that spilled
But what about my cereal?
Suddenly things get serious
The love I shed’s arterial.

And I’ll lay alone
Till she picks me up
Opens my eyes to what she sees
From that day on I’ll make her mine
Together forever
Like carrots and peas.
