The End of the World

The End of the World

The world was over... the sky was black, the ground was dry and in the air you couldn't tell the difference between ashes and dust. Everything disappeared, from bodies to bodies of water. The Earth went cold and died.
A nuclear bomb went off and destroyed everything in its way, except for some birds flying in the sky and some insects hiding in the dirt.
The birds were flying around with grace, not knowing they wouldn't have anything to eat. Hours passed and the birds were already starving, flying around in circles, in the hopes of spotting some insects in the ground. The poor birds starved for days, they were desperate, they even tried to eat plants but they couldn't survive with that. Half of their population was gone... Instead of being 50 there were now 10.
One day, the unthinkable happened, they saw a tree leaf moving in a weird way, there wasn't any wind so it couldn't be moving by itself, the birds had to check this out. The leader of the birds offered his help and reached for the leaf, a very scary baby worm was under it. The chief was really excited, in a crazy way..
The poor worm couldn't stop shaking, he knew he was going to be dinner for those 10 birds in no time. But then, something unexpected happened, the chief had a change of heart, he felt really sorry for the baby worm and asked him to calm down, he told the bird he wasn't going to hurt him and that he could trust him.
The other birds were astounded, they couldn't believe the chief did that. The chief took the baby worm and asked him where his family was, the worm was hesitant but gave in... He told the chief his family knew all about the hungry birds and were so afraid they never left their home, which was under feet of dirt and mud. The baby worm told the chief he was so hungry that he thought it would be easy to go get a leaf and come back short after.
The chief offered the baby worm a ride home, and the baby worm naively accepted. The baby worm's mom was out there when they got there, she was so worried she didn't even care if she got eaten, she just wanted to see her baby.
When they got there, the chief totally transformed, he was a savage, he started digging up dirt like a mad man, and nothing could get in his way, the other birds saw this and joined him, it was the end of the world all over again...
The funny thing is, if the birds and the worms only knew about the garden with delicious fruit a couple feet away, they would all be alive right now.
